It’s the sound of the button box that I really like, but decided to go with a piano accordion, as I’d already been playing piano all my life, and I have an affinity and instinct with the piano keyboard layout.įrom trying a piano accordion, I realised why a lot of Irish players don’t use the bass buttons, or do so very sparingly – the chords on the common stradella system really aren’t suited to the music. ![]() Since first experiencing an Irish session at the end of last year, I’ve immersed myself in the music, and taken steps to learn an instrument which would one day enable me to make my own contribution. I’m new to Irish trad, but come from a musical background, playing the piano and composing. I thought some of you may be interested in my accordion experiments.
